If you are planning on running this weekend, consider participating in the Wear Blue: Run to Remember.
wear blue pauses to remember the hundreds of thousands of men and women who have answered the call to defend our country’s freedoms. Our goal is to honor those who have sacrificed their lives by reaching over 10,000 runners in blue.
This Monday is the Memorial Day 4 miler on Staten Island (I talked about it a couple of weeks ago). I am still hoping to participate in the race but due to some hamstring pain, I’m waiting until after tomorrow’s run to make the call.
I woke up Sunday and felt some discomfort in my left hamstring. It wasn’t pain but more of a tight hamstring. My husband and I went on a 5 mile recovery run (my little guys slept over my sister’s home the night prior so we were taking advantage of some child-free time).
My hamstring didn’t hurt – but it was still tight and I felt like I was overcompensating with my stride. I stretched and rolled later that night.
I woke up Monday for an early AM run and made it to the end of my block before stopping and walking home. It was more than just tightness now – it was starting to feel painful. Long story short – I didn’t run Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and had about 48 hours of total rest (no cross training, core, strength, etc). I tested it out yesterday morning (and again today) – and the pain was and is gone. But I want to wait one more day and ensure there is no soreness, tightness or pain before deciding to race on Monday!
Any local runners participating in the Memorial Day 4 miler?
I’m incredibly excited to share that Ruth (my cadet from 26 Strong) and I are headed to San Diego in a couple of weeks for an incredible photo shoot with Competitor Magazine!!!! I am so excited to have been chosen for this program again and then finding out that we were one of the 4 teams picked for this photo shoot was icing on the cake!
We leave Monday, June 1 and will be returning home Thursday, June 4th! Should be a fun few days on the west coast and it will give Ruth and I more of a chance to get to know each other better!
Hope you have a great holiday weekend – good luck if you are racing!
