North Face Mountain Athletic Training Update!

This post is brought to you by The North Face. The content and opinions expressed below are that of NYC Running Mama.

I talked about the North Face Mountain Athletics App a few weeks ago. I have been consistently using the app (Download the Mountain Athletics App) since then. It’s a 6-week program that alternates between:

  • Strength and Core (mix of upper/lower/core workouts)
  • 2 mile assessment (every 2 weeks)
  • Running Speed and Power Workout

Since I am in training mode for my fall marathon, I decided to primarily use the strength and core workouts as supplements to my running training plan. I’ve been using the app for about five weeks now and can feel a difference in my running. I feel stronger, leaner and faster than when I started in May.

Some of my favorite aspects of the app include:

  • You don’t need fancy equipment to do the workouts. When I was in San Diego last week for the Competitor photo shoot, I was able to do these workouts in my hotel room (just used water bottles as weights!).
  • Holds you accountable. The app tells you when it’s time to do the workout – so it makes it easier to stay on track.
  • Videos and explanations. I tend to do the same exercises over and over again because that’s what I know how to do. The app does a great job of explaining – either through text or a video – the proper way to do these exercises.
