A Plan of Action for Keeping Your Car Clean With Kids

Kids and a clean car may not go hand in hand, especially if you are often on the go. Clutter can build up quickly, not to mention the crumbs and spills that come from having food and drink in your car. However, you can take some simple steps to help maintain your car’s cleanliness.

Set Ground Rules

First, you will want to set some rules. These will help train your kids to prioritize keeping your vehicle clean. Let them know you want it to look like it did when you first found your new Kia for sale. Consider having a reward system for when kids remember to follow the rules. Your rules are up to you, but be sure to focus on keeping your vehicle nice and tidy.

Keep a Vacuum in the Car

Crumbs can be one of the most significant and challenging aspects of cleaning a car. For this reason, keeping a handheld vacuum in the car is a good idea. That means it’s right there when you need it and that you also can take the opportunity to do a quick vacuum while you are waiting for your kid to get out of practice or pass the vacuum around to have everyone clean up their spot while you’re sitting at a red light.

Always Bring Everything In

A good habit to establish is bringing everything in with you every time you go inside. This helps prevent clutter from building up in your vehicle. Once you and your kids get into the habit of doing this, you’ll find that your vehicle stays picked up without much real effort. Consider always keeping a laundry basket in your trunk so you can carry things in when there’s a lot.

Keep Cleaning Supplies Handy

Just like having a vacuum, keeping some cleaning supplies in your vehicle can help with interior maintenance. For example, having a microfiber rag and spray is a great way to ensure you can clean up messes as they happen. You can also do a quick wipe-down while waiting in the car pickup line or stuck at a long red light.

Use Storage Organizers

You likely keep some things in your vehicle at all times. This may be membership passes, sports balls, or on-the-go snacks. Getting storage organizers to keep these items in prevents them from getting lost in your vehicle. Some organizers go over the back of the seat, and there are baskets that you can store in your trunk.

Have Trash Cans Available

Have some trash cans available throughout your car. Keep one near your front seat and another in the back. Doing this will help kids resist the temptation to throw their trash on the floor or shove them in a cup holder. Empty your trash cans regularly to keep them from overflowing.

Stick to the Plan

Now that you can keep your car clean, keep it up. Establish these habits so that they become second nature. That way, your vehicle can stay as clean as possible daily.
